Financial Contributions in AA
In the spirit of our Seventh Tradition of self-support, we want to clarify how financial contributions flow within our AA structure:
- Individual members contribute to their local groups.
- Groups, after meeting their own expenses, send contributions to their local intergroup.
- Intergroup, in turn, contribute to area and national AA services.
This structure ensures that each level of our fellowship remains self-supporting, as stated in our Seventh Tradition. It also reinforces our First Tradition of common welfare and our Second Tradition of group conscience.
If your group needs assistance with financial matters, including setting up or managing bank accounts, please reach out to your local intergroup. We’re here to support you in maintaining these essential traditions.

Gratitude Week
Gratitude Week (or Sobriety Week as it was first known): the idea is to hold a separate collection in groups on or around the week of 10th June each year.
Groups wishing to make a Gratitude Week donation via Intergroup can do so: please transfer the money to Intergroup in the usual way.
Please let Steve (Treasurer) know you have made a Gratitude Week donation, and how much you have collected, via email: email hidden; JavaScript is required
The Treasurer will send all Gratitude Week donations received to York directly.
Please ensure you transfer any Gratitude Week collections before the end of August – monies must go to York by September.

What are Intergroup Meetings?
This is an AA business meeting where representatives of Edinburgh and Midlothian AA groups meet with the InterGroup (IG) Officers on a monthly basis, in order to discuss AA business in support of AA groups within the IG district.
As stated in the AA GB Handbook at page 87: “The aims of an intergroup are to aid the constituent groups in their common purpose of carrying the AA message to the still suffering alcoholic, and, by using their combined strength and unity, to maintain good relations with all organisations in the community.”
Each AA group is encouraged to send a nominated Group Service Representative (GSR) to the meetings. Members of AA are welcome to attend the meeting in an observer capacity.
